About OCN

Old Codger Net (OCN)

The Old Codger Net (OCN) is a weekly on-the-air meeting of old codgers. In amateur radio lingo, it’s a Net. But this is not your tired, old, check-in – check-out, let’s-get-the-numbers-up, information Net. The OCN is a fun Net. And if you’re not careful while listening to the OCN, you will learn some off-the-wall, absolutely useless fact or statistic. Members of the OCN are veritable bottomless wells of useless, meaningless and trivial information. So please join us. Tune your scanner or amateur radio to the Short Mountain Repeater Club repeater frequency of 146.910 MHz every Monday night, beginning at 8:00 PM Central time.

History of The Old Codger Net

The first meeting of the Old Codger Net (OCN) occurred on Monday night, 23 January 2006. Founding Father Roger -W4IV was net control operator and logged a total of 42 charter codgers for a grand start. Since the inaugural net, the OCN has met every Monday night. In just over a year and a half, the OCN has logged over 4,000 check-ins, and passed along more than six metric tons of timeless, useless information. Some of the 360+ codgers and codgerettes checked in with jokes, but mostly it’s just useless information. And I mean USELESS. Come to think of it, the jokes were pretty useless too. So tune your police scanner or amateur radio to the W4YXA Repeater (146.910 MHz) to listen in. If you’re a licensed amateur radio operator, dust off your rig, check in with us and tell us something interesting.

All amateur radio operators are invited to check in. You do not have to be a member of the OCN, or any other organization, to check in, but once you do, you are a member. Please join us. For more information on the OCN email:
